TED is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to discovering, discussing, and sharing ideas that spark conversation, deepen understanding, and inspire meaningful change.
We believe in curiosity, reason, innovation, and the pursuit of knowledge, without a hidden agenda.
We welcome people from all backgrounds and cultures who seek a deeper understanding of the world and stronger connections with others. We encourage everyone to engage with ideas and bring them to life in their own communities.
TED began in 1984 as a conference bringing together Technology, Entertainment, and Design. Today, it has grown into a global network of communities and initiatives exploring topics ranging from science and business to education, the arts, and pressing global issues.
In addition to TED Talks recorded at our annual conferences and shared on TED.com, we produce original podcasts, short-form video series, animated educational lessons through TED-Ed, and television programs. Our content is translated into more than 100 languages and distributed through partnerships around the world.
Every year, thousands of independently organized TEDx events bring people together to exchange ideas and build connections across communities on every continent. Through ambitious initiatives, TED has helped catalyze more than $3 billion in funding for projects aimed at creating a more beautiful, sustainable, and equitable world.
In 2020, TED launched Countdown, an initiative designed to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis and mobilize a global movement toward a net-zero future.
In 2023, TED introduced TED Democracy to inspire new conversations about practical pathways toward a more vibrant and equitable future.

In the spirit of discovering and sharing ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, independently organized events that bring people together to experience the power of TED.
At TEDx events, TED Talk videos and live speakers come together to spark meaningful conversations, encourage fresh perspectives, and build connections within the community.
These events are called TEDx, where the “x” stands for an independently organized TED event.
While TED provides general guidelines for the TEDx program, each event is independently organized and operated in accordance with TED’s rules and regulations.
